Clay County is located in northeast Florida and is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. It has a total area of 644 square miles, with 601 square miles of land and 43 square miles (6.7%) of water. Clay County is bordered by Duval County to the north, St. Johns County to the east, Putnam County to the south, and Bradford County to the west. 

Demographics 

According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Clay County had a population of 221,135. The racial makeup was 80.9% White, 10.4% Black or African American, 3.6% Asian, 0.4% Native American, 0.1% Pacific Islander, and 4.6% from other races or two or more races. Additionally, 9.3% were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Clay County has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild, dry winters. Average highs are around 90°F in July, and average lows near 50°F in January. The county is prone to severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, flooding, and hurricanes/tropical storms during hurricane season from June through November. Major hurricanes that have impacted Clay County include Hurricane Dora in 1964, Hurricane Frances in 2004, and Hurricane Irma in 2017, which caused widespread wind damage and power outages.
