Gadsden County is located in the Florida Panhandle region of the state. It has a total area of 529 square miles, with 516 square miles of land and 12 square miles (2.3%) of water. Gadsden County is bordered by Georgia to the north, Leon County to the east, Liberty and Wakulla counties to the south, and Jackson and Calhoun counties to the west. 

Demographics 

According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Gadsden County had a population of 43,826. The racial makeup was 53.2% Black or African American, 32.2% White, 11.6% Hispanic or Latino, and 2.2% two or more races. Gadsden is the only majority-Black county in Florida. The 2022 estimated population was 43,300. 

Climate and Natural Disasters 

Gadsden County has a humid subtropical climate and is prone to severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, flooding, and hurricanes during hurricane season from June through November. The county was impacted by Hurricane Michael in 2018, which caused widespread wind damage as a Category 5 storm.
