Leon County is located in the Florida Panhandle region of the state. It has a total area of 702 square miles, with 667 square miles of land and 35 square miles (5.0%) of water. Leon County is part of the Tallahassee metropolitan area. It is bordered by Wakulla County to the south, Jefferson County to the east, Gadsden and Liberty counties to the west, and Georgia to the north.

According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Leon County had a population of 292,198. The racial makeup was 59.9% White, 31.2% Black or African American, 4.5% Asian, 0.3% Native American, 0.1% Pacific Islander, and 4.0% from other races or two or more races. Additionally, 7.3% were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
