Marion County is located in north-central Florida. It has a total area of 1,663 square miles, with 1,584 square miles of land and 79 square miles (4.8%) of water. Marion County is part of the Ocala metropolitan area. It is bordered by Alachua County to the north, Putnam County to the northeast, Volusia and Lake counties to the east, Sumter County to the southeast, Citrus County to the southwest, and Levy County to the west. 

Demographics 

According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Marion County had a population of 375,972. The racial makeup was 80.9% White, 11.4% Black or African American, 1.2% Asian, 0.4% Native American, 0.1% Pacific Islander, and 6.0% from other races or two or more races. Additionally, 13.3% were Hispanic or Latino of any race. The 2024 estimated population for Marion County is 423,481, with a growth rate of 12.19% since 2020.

Marion County has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild, dry winters. Average highs are around 92°F in July, and average lows are around 50°F in January. The county is prone to severe thunderstorms, tornadoes, and occasional hurricanes during the summer and fall months. Major hurricanes that have impacted Marion County include Hurricane Frances in 2004 and Hurricane Irma in 2017.
