Miami-Dade County is located in southeastern Florida, along the Atlantic coast. It has a total area of 2,431 square miles, with 1,946 square miles of land and 485 square miles (19.9%) of water. Miami-Dade County is part of the Miami metropolitan area. It is bordered by Broward County to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Monroe County and Florida Bay to the south, and Collier County to the west.

According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Miami-Dade County had a population of 2,701,767, making it the most populous county in Florida. The racial makeup was 65.8% White, 16.8% Black or African American, 1.5% Asian, 0.2% Native American, 0.1% Pacific Islander, and 15.6% from other races or two or more races. Additionally, 69.4% were Hispanic or Latino of any race. The 2024 estimated population for Miami-Dade County is 2,842,653, with a growth rate of 5.2% since 2020.

Miami-Dade County has a tropical monsoon climate, with hot and humid summers and warm and dry winters. Average highs are around 90°F in July, and average lows are around 65°F in January. Major hurricanes that have impacted Miami-Dade include Hurricane Andrew in 1992, Hurricane Wilma in 2005, Hurricane Irma in 2017, and Hurricane Ian in 2022.
