Sarasota County is located in southwest Florida, along the Gulf Coast. It has a total area of 725 square miles, with 556 square miles of land and 169 square miles (23.4%) of water. Sarasota County is part of the North Port-Bradenton-Sarasota metropolitan area. It is bordered by Manatee County to the north, DeSoto County to the east, Charlotte County to the south, and the Gulf of Mexico to the west. 

Demographics 

According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Sarasota County had a population of 434,006. The 2023 estimated population is 469,013, with a growth rate of around 8% since 2020. The racial makeup in 2020 was 87.9% White, 5.1% Black or African American, 2.9% Asian, 0.3% Native American, 0.1% Pacific Islander, and 3.7% from other races or two or more races. Additionally, 11.6% were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Sarasota County has a humid subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild, dry winters. Average highs are around 90°F in July, and average lows are around 55°F in January. Major hurricanes that have impacted Sarasota County in recent years include Hurricane Charley in 2004, Hurricane Irma in 2017, and Hurricane Ian in 2022.
